Safeguarding Policy for Cassio ABC

1. Policy Statement

Cassio ABC/Fayz Fitness is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults who participate in our activities.
We believe that:

  • The welfare of the child and vulnerable person is paramount.
  • All children and adults at risk have the right to protection from abuse, harm, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, has the right to participate in boxing in a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment.

We will ensure that appropriate safeguarding measures are in place to protect all participants, and we expect all staff, coaches, volunteers, and members to share this commitment.


2. Scope of Policy

This policy applies to:

  • All children under 18 years of age.
  • Adults at risk (defined as anyone over 18 who may be unable to care for themselves, protect themselves from harm, or prevent exploitation).
  • All staff, coaches, volunteers, parents/guardians, and club members.

3. Key Principles

  • Act in the best interests of the child/vulnerable adult at all times.
  • Take all allegations, concerns, or suspicions of abuse seriously.
  • Ensure safe recruitment of staff and volunteers.
  • Provide clear procedures for reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment where individuals feel able to speak out.

4. Types of Abuse

We recognise the following as forms of abuse:

  • Physical abuse – hitting, shaking, inappropriate training methods.
  • Emotional abuse – bullying, threats, humiliation, unrealistic pressure to perform.
  • Sexual abuse – any inappropriate sexual activity, contact, or suggestion.
  • Neglect – failure to meet basic needs, lack of supervision, ignoring medical needs.

5. Responsibilities

Club Committee & Management

  • Ensure this policy is implemented and reviewed annually.
  • Appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and deputy.

Coaches & Volunteers

  • Always put the welfare of participants first.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Complete safeguarding training as required.
  • Report any concerns immediately to the DSL.

Parents/Guardians

  • Support the club in implementing safeguarding measures.
  • Share relevant information about their child’s needs.

7. Reporting Concerns

  • Any member who has a concern about a child/vulnerable adult must report it to the DSL immediately.
  • If the DSL is not available and the concern is urgent, contact the Local Authority Children’s Services or the Police directly.
  • All concerns will be taken seriously, investigated appropriately, and acted upon without delay.

8. Code of Conduct

  • Coaches and volunteers must never be alone with a child in a closed environment.
  • Physical contact should always be appropriate, necessary, and consented.
  • Bullying, discrimination, or intimidation will not be tolerated.

9. Safe Recruitment

  • All staff and volunteers working with children/vulnerable adults must undergo a DBS check.
  • References will be obtained prior to appointment.

10. Awareness

  • The safeguarding policy will be available on the club website.

  • Any person who feels they have been subject to discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment should report it to the Club Welfare Officer/Equality Officer.
  • Complaints will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled sensitively.
  • Where appropriate, complaints may be referred to England Boxing or external agencies.
