Thursday 6th October was the night of Boxing with the stars, a celebrity charity boxing event in aid of Parkinson’s sufferers, injured boxers and after the untimely death of a Boxer, proceeds from the auction were for Iron Mike Towell who sadly lost his life just a week before the event on September 30th.
The event was organized by former Champions and Sky Sports Ringside Analysts Spencer ‘The Omen’ Oliver and ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker and also Eastenders star Jake Wood. Other well known names to feature were former England and Chelsea Footballer Wayne Bridge and former British Lions Rugby player Craig Chalmers.
There were plenty of recognisable faces amongst the guests too, ex Heavyweight Champ Frank Bruno, who still looked like he could step into a ring. From Sky Sports there was the famed commentary duo of Adam Smith and former World Cruiserweight Champion Johnny Nelson and other names included Dave Coldwell, one of the top Boxing trainers who has a stable of World Champions including Tony Bellew and there was also recently retired Commonwealth Champion Kevin Mitchell. Outside of the Boxing circle there were a number of the Eastenders cast in attendance, there to support Jake Wood and there was also the funny man and TV Host from my childhood Bobby Davro!
It was an excellent and enjoyable night for all which also featured 8 boxing fights on the night, Wayne Bridge looked sharp in his outing, showing its not just Football he is talented at, Jake Wood put in a gritty performance in his fight and Craig Chalmers despite being new to the sport showed having a Rugby background was more than useful in a fight! The corners were manned by the quality of Spencer Oliver on one side and Darren Barker on the other, also stepping in was Dave Coldwell, a wealth of experience and knowledge between them all to ensure the Boxers were getting the very best of advice. Below are some pics I took on the night, it was a pleasure to meet them all and I’m already looking forward to the next one whenever that may be!
